Below you'll find examples of the type of accommodation you could be staying in. Please note that the below accommodation options are shown as examples of the types of accommodation we book. Due to high demand during the summer time and limited accommodation capacity in some regions we cannot always guarantee availability. In these circumstances, we will supply an accommodation of an equal standard in the same region before your travel dates. We highly recommend you book as well in advance as possible.

Quality accommodation:

Icelandair Hotel Vik is a new hotel in a wonderful setting in the village of Vik in Myrdalur Valley. It is nestled under sandstone hills and is embraced by magnificent natural surroundings. The views are stunning as you look out over the beach, to the sea and the Reynisdrangar Pillars, and experience the spectacular cliffs and birdlife where the puffins in Mt. Reynisfjall are only a stone’s throw away. Myrdalsjokull Glacier stands guard over the region in all its splendor and there are adventures to be had all around. Hotel Klettur is a beautiful 3 star hotel located right next to Reykjavik´s main shopping street, Laugavegur. The hotel has 86 brightly decorated and modern guest rooms with free wired internet access, refrigerator, telephone, flat-screen satellite TV and private bathroom with shower. A buffet breakfast is served every morning in the dining room. Several shops, restaurants and cafés are located in the surrounding area. Free public parking is possible on site.

Volcano Hotel

Volcano Hotel is a small family owned Hotel in the southern most area of Iceland. Hotel Edda Akureyri is perfectly situated near the center of the capital of the north, next to the botanical garden and the public outdoor geothermal swimming pool with hut tub. Activities such as horse riding, whale watching, hiking and climbing, golf and a flight trip are nearby. The hotel offers 120 rooms with bathroom, television and telephone and 70 rooms with in-room washbasins. Further facilities are a café, meeting rooms and wireless internet connection in the lobby area as well as a guest computer.

Budget accommodation:

Rooms without private facilities. Budget accommodation may be in country hotels, farmhouses and/ or guesthouses. All rooms have made-up beds; some of these rooms have washbasins with hot and cold water. Showers and WC in shared facilities. Most of the facilities booked by Iceland Tours offer dinner during the summer time. Breakfast is included.

Snorri´s Guesthouse

Snorri's Guesthouse is a friendly family owned guesthouse in Reykjavik, located only few minutes from the main shopping street in the city center. Only a short walking distance away is a historic and atmospheric public indoor swimming pool with a steam bath and outdoor hot tubs. Other facilities at the guesthouse are free parking at the premises of the guesthouse and free wireless internet connection in the lobby.

Hotel Edda Skógar

Hotel Edda Skogar is situated some footsteps away from Skógafoss Waterfall and the heritage museum Skógar. It is part of the Edda chain with hotels all around the island and a long experience providing comfortable accommodation and outstanding service. Nearby are Eyjafjallajökull glacier, black beaches, Dyrhólaey sea arch, a public swimming pool and possibilities for horse riding. The hotel has 34 rooms with basins and shared facilities. Free parking and wireless internet connection in the lobby as well as a guest computer are provided.

Guesthouse Skjaldarvik

Guesthouse Skjaldarvik is situated close to Akureyri, in a peaceful environment, surrounded by nature. The guesthouse has 27 individual rooms with shared bathrooms and rooms that can accommodate up to 4 persons. During summer, a dinner can be served upon request The guesthouse has furthermore a lounge, a bar with tv, a library and a hot tub free of charge for guests.

DAY 1
Welcome to Iceland

Your memorable, Iceland adventure begins the very moment you arrive at Keflavik Airport. Once you pick up your rental vehicle, you’ll head directly for Reykjavik and your exciting, first night in “the land of fire and ice.”
 
Suggestion: If your flight arrives early enough, you can start your trip off in a spectacular way with a visit to Iceland’s world-famous, Blue Lagoon. Be sure to pack your swimsuit, so you can take a relaxing dip in the Lagoon’s soothing, geothermal waters, before heading to your hotel.

DAY 2
Snaefellsnes National Park

From Reykjavik you head to the Borgarfjörður region on your way to Snaefellsnes Peninsula famous for the majestic Snaefell volcano/glacier. Day spent exploring the numerous places of interest include the basalt pillars of Gerðuberg, Búðir with its small wooden church surrounded by a lava field, Arnarstapi, a small fishing village and Djúpalónssandur, a black sand beach. On the north of the peninsula you will drive along the shore of the Breiðafjörður Bay, passing through charming fishing villages.

DAY 3
Borgarfjörður and Thingvellir

From Snaefellsnes you head back to the Borgarfjörður Region to explore this region better. You can make a stop at Deildartunguhver hot spring (the biggest in Iceland in terms of water production per second), Reykholt and the Hraunfossar waterfalls where the water flows out from beneath a lava field into the river below. You continue to Thingvellir (Þingvellir) National Park, considered a geological wonder of the world. This is a highly interesting area both from the geological and the historical point of view. Here you can see the effects of the tectonic plate movements which have opened cracks and fissures in the earth’s crust.

DAY 4
Waterfalls and hot springs

Now it is time to visit some of the most interesting and famous areas of Iceland. In the geothermal area of Geysir the hot spring Strokkur ejects its water column high into the air every 5 – 10 minutes or so and here numerous small springs boil and bubble. Afterwards you only have a short drive to Gullfoss, which many regard as Iceland’s most beautiful waterfall. On your way along the south coast you will pass the pass Seljalandsfoss waterfall and you can actually walk behind it. A little further you pass Skógarfoss waterfall, one of the highest in Iceland. Next you can stop at the magnificent Dyrhólaey Cape. You can either take the road up to the top of the cape, and have a look at the bird cliff there or drive to a beautiful black sand beach at the foot of the cape. (Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season from May 15 til June 23 and from mid- August the puffins will have gone to sea!).

DAY 5
Skaftafell National Park and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Today you will drive across the impressive black sand plain Mýrdalssandur, the beautiful Eldhraun lava field and the immense and remarkable Skeidarársandur outwash plains with lovely views of the outlet glaciers of the great Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. Make a stop to enjoy the breathtaking sights of the Skaftafell National Park, an oasis surrounded by glaciers and black sand with many hiking possibilities and at the spectacular Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Enormous icebergs drift on the the lagoon and you can take a 30-40 min boat trip around them.

DAY 6
The Blue Lagoon and exciting Reykjavik

Drive back to Reykjavik through Selfoss and Hveragerði. Now you can either take some time to relax in Reykjavik or drive to the famous Blue Lagoon, on the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you can enjoy a relaxing swim in geothermal water.

DAY 7
Departure from Iceland

Now it is time to head back home, after an amazing journey through one of the world’s most picturesque landscapes.  You will drive back to Keflavík Airport for your flight back home. Depending on your flight time, you may be able to enjoy your last day strolling around Reykjavík. Or, even better, consider booking an extra night in Reykjavík to really give yourself time to experience all the amazing things Iceland’s capital city has to offer.
