When we design our tours we book the best accommodation available, in order to make the trip as comfortable and enjoyable for you as possible. We offer a great selection of hotels, farmhouses and guesthouses for our clients. You can be assured of a warm welcome and an enjoyable stay at all the options offered by us. Below you'll find examples of the type of accommodation you could be staying in. Please note that the below accommodation options are shown as examples of the types of accommodation we book. Due to high demand during the summer time and limited accommodation capacity in some regions we cannot always guarantee availability. In these circumstances, we will supply an accommodation of an equal standard in the same region before your travel dates. We highly recommend you book as well in advance as possible.

Quality accommodation:

Hotel Klettur

Hotel Klettur is a beautiful 3 star hotel located right next to Reykjavik´s main shopping street, Laugavegur. The hotel has 86 brightly decorated and modern guest rooms with free wired internet access, refrigerator, telephone, flat-screen satellite TV and private bathroom with shower. A buffet breakfast is served every morning in the dining room. Several shops, restaurants and cafés are located in the surrounding area. Free public parking is possible on site.

Volcano Hotel

Volcano Hotel is a small family owned Hotel in the southern most area of Iceland. The area around Volcano Hotel is breathtakingly beautiful and many of the best known natural wonders of Iceland are in minutes drive from us; Eyjafjallajökull, Dyrhólaey and Skógafoss. Hotel Edda Akureyri

Hotel Edda Akureyri is perfectly situated near the center of the capital of the north, next to the botanical garden and the public outdoor geothermal swimming pool with hut tub. Activities such as horse riding, whale watching, hiking and climbing, golf and a flight trip are nearby. The hotel offers 120 rooms with bathroom, television and telephone and 70 rooms with in-room washbasins. Further facilities are a café, meeting rooms and wireless internet connection in the lobby area as well as a guest computer.

Budget accommodation:

Rooms without private facilities. Budget accommodation may be in country hotels, farmhouses and/ or guesthouses. All rooms have made-up beds; some of these rooms have washbasins with hot and cold water. Showers and WC in shared facilities. Most of the facilities booked by Iceland Tours offer dinner during the summer time. Breakfast is included.

Snorri´s Guesthouse

Snorri's Guesthouse is a friendly family owned guesthouse in Reykjavik, located only few minutes from the main shopping street in the city center. Only a short walking distance away is a historic and atmospheric public indoor swimming pool with a steam bath and outdoor hot tubs. Other facilities at the guesthouse are free parking at the premises of the guesthouse and free wireless internet connection in the lobby.

Hotel Edda Skógar

Hotel Edda Skogar is situated some footsteps away from Skógafoss Waterfall and the heritage museum Skógar. It is part of the Edda chain with hotels all around the island and a long experience providing comfortable accommodation and outstanding service. Nearby are Eyjafjallajökull glacier, black beaches, Dyrhólaey sea arch, a public swimming pool and possibilities for horse riding. The hotel has 34 rooms with basins and shared facilities. Free parking and wireless internet connection in the lobby as well as a guest computer are provided.

Guesthouse Skjaldarvik

Guesthouse Skjaldarvik is situated close to Akureyri, in a peaceful environment, surrounded by nature. The guesthouse has 27 individual rooms with shared bathrooms and rooms that can accommodate up to 4 persons. During summer, a dinner can be served upon request The guesthouse has furthermore a lounge, a bar with tv, a library and a hot tub free of charge for guests.

Welcome to Iceland

Your memorable, Iceland adventure begins the very moment you arrive at Keflavik Airport. Once you pick up your rental vehicle, you’ll head directly for Reykjavik and your exciting, first night in Iceland.
 
If your flight arrives early enough, we have a great suggestion for starting your trip off the right way: Plan a visit to Iceland’s world-famous Blue Lagoon. Be sure to pack your swimsuit, so you can take a relaxing dip in the Lagoon’s soothing, geothermal waters, before heading to your hotel.

Borgarfjörður and Snaefellsnes

Today you will be discovering an interesting area, rich with cultural and historical heritage. As you head toward Borgarfjörður, we recommend stopping by the magnificent, Hraunfossar waterfalls, where the water seems to magically flows from the lava bed into the river below. Heading to Snaefellsnes peninsula you should visit the beautiful places all around the peninsula; for example Búðir, Arnarstapi and Hellnar on the way to your accommodation in the Snaefellsnes area.

Snaefellsnes and Breiðafjördur Bay

Your day will start with a boat ride on the Baldur ferry, taking you to the beautiful, West Fjords. You will depart in the morning from Stykkishólmur, heading to Patreksfjordur and sailing through Breiðafjörður Bay.

West Fjords and Dynjandi Waterfall

Today you continue up north along the West Fjords, one of the most remote regions of Iceland. The landscape is breathtaking as you cross mountains and heaths and drive along the dramatic fjords at the foot of steep cliffs. Dynjandi is a beautiful waterfall that lies in the northern arm of the fjord Arnarfjörður. You continue toward the north until you reach the village Flateyri and from there you drive on to reach your accommodation near the Isafjordur town.

The most remote place in Iceland: The West Fjords

Today your journey through the most remote places in Iceland continues. Next up is Strandir, the eastern part of the West Fjords.  You’ll thrill to the spectacular landscape, while driving along the numerous small fjords of Ísafjarðardjúp and passing Vigur Island along the way.

North Iceland and Akureyri the capital of the North

Your next day’s journey continues toward the northern part of Iceland, ending in the north’s capital, Akureyri, passing through Skagafjörður, known for exceptional horse breeding; in fact, many stunning, Icelandic horses can be seen on your drive.

Waterfall and Lake Mývatn

In the morning you can spend some time in Akureyri before heading to the Lake Myvatn area. It is undoubtedly one of Iceland’s most renowned areas, due to its volcanic activity and its amazing bird life.

On the way to Myvatn, plan to stop at the impressive, Godafoss waterfall, known as “the waterfall of the gods”.

Lake Myvatn Nature Reserve

Your whole day is dedicated to the marvels of the Lake Myvatn Nature Reserve, renowned as one of Iceland’s most inspiring, natural wonders. Of particular interest are two steam baths built for superb relaxation that sit straight on top of a geothermal area; the sulphur-free steam rises up through holes in the floor. Typically the temperature is around 50°C and the humidity is close to 100%. Guests can take a few turns in the steam baths and cool down in the outdoor shower in between.

Dettifoss Waterfall and Ásbyrgi

Your day starts in the charming fishing village of Husavik. After Husavik, you will drive the Tjornes Peninsula coastline, where you can make a quick stop on the way at the extremity of the peninsula to enjoy the view and spot some seabirds. The journey then continues to the eastern part of Iceland, with a few stops on the way, for your next evening’s stay.

The East Fjords

Today is the day to discover the East Fjords. Starting toward the fjord Reydarfjörður, where a small-but-fascinating, World War II history museum is located, you continue along the fjords toward Southeast Iceland. At times, the road hangs precariously high on the mountain slopes. Finally, you drive through the tunnel of Almannaskarð to arrive in the Höfn region, where you will spend that night.

Skaftafell National Park , Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Waterfalls

Your next stop is Iceland’s scenic southeast. After passing various, outlet glaciers belonging to Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest ice cap, you’ll arrive at the stunningly surreal beauty of Jokulsarlon, a glacial lagoon. This exceptional sight sits at the foot of Iceland’s highest mountain, Hvannadalshnúkur.

Skaftafell National Park is another area definitely worth a visit. This oasis, surrounded by glaciers and black sand plains, offers a broad range of options for great hiking. Continue through Kirkjubaejarklaustur village, the Eldhraun lava field and the Mýrdalssandur plain, before you arrive in the Vík area

Waterfalls and black sand beaches

Today you can start by taking a look at the black sand Reynisfjara beach, famous for the Reynisdrangar rock stacks that rise from the sea and for its basalt columns. Dyrhólaey cape is the southernmost point of Iceland. A small road takes you to the top of this 120 m high sea cliff where you often can see a large number of puffins. (Please note that Dyrhólaey is closed during nesting season from May 15 til June 23 and from mid- August the puffins will have gone to sea!). Continuing westbound you arrive at Skógar and pass Skógarfoss waterfall, one of the highest in Iceland. As you continue towards Hella you pass Seljalandsfoss waterfall and you can actually walk behind it.

The Golden Circle

Continue westbound to the south coast of Iceland and explore the Golden Circle, which takes you to the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland: Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park. On your way back to Reykjavik you will pass the magnificent waterfalls, Skógarfoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Departure from Iceland

Most of the bookings are confirmed instantly; however, packages that include overnight accommodation and car rental may take a bit longer. Scandinavian Travel Experts reserves the right to alter routes, itineraries or departure times without prior notice should this be necessary due to weather or other reasons that are beyond Scandinavian Travel Experts' control. Please notice that in the case of changes of flights, the passenger is responsible for any additional costs that become payable as a result of such changes. Prices are guaranteed against any surcharge after an invoice has been issued, unless the increase is due to government laws or currency changes and amounts to 5% of the package price or more. The amounts that exceed 5% will be charged and clients will be entitled to cancel their booking with a full refund if the surcharge exceeds 10%. Any increase due to changes in government laws, i.e. tax changes will be added to the invoice. If a day tour, package or group tour is cancelled due to circumstances outside our control or minimum numbers are not reached, we will refund the money you have paid. CANCELLATION TERMS Applied cancellation fees differ between packages (including accommodation and/or car rental) and day tours. CAR RENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS Scandinavian Travel Experts cooperates with the best and most reliable car rental suppliers in Iceland. Together we provide comprehensive car rental brokering services offering the best available prices, security and the best service in the market. You can be sure that the cars you rent through our service will be in excellent condition. Age Requirements and Driving License The minimum driver's age for car rentals in Iceland is 20 years for vehicle groups Economy, Compact, Compact Wagon, Intermediate 2 and 4 doors and Intermediate Wagon. For all other vehicle groups the minimum driver's age is 23 years. The driver must present a valid driver's license held for a minimum of one year at the time of rental. An International Driving Permit (IDP) / International Driving License (IDL) is also required if your national driver's license is not in Roman script. This is recommended for translation purposes and may only be used in conjunction with a national driving license. For vehicles for 9 passengers or more, driving license D is requested. Additional Driver / Operator The person named on the reservation must be the main driver, who must be present at time of rental and the payer of any rental charges. Our packages include two authorized drivers at no extra cost. Additional fees An Airport Service Charge applying to all rentals with pick-up and drop-off at Keflavik International Airport is included in all our prices. All drop off fee´s due to one way rentals are paid on location, contact us for more information on this. All rates are subject to a Government tax (VAT) at the rate of 25.5%, which is included in all our rates. Our car rates do not include petrol. The rental car will normally have a full tank of fuel and the car should be refilled before returning it. All rates are based on a rental period of 24 consecutive hours. If a rental exceeds the 24 hour period an extra day will be charged. Insurance Third party liability is equivalent to the amount stipulated by Icelandic law at any given time. This also applies to the amount of individual driver liability. Third party cover and personal accident insurance is automatically included in your rental. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) CDW insurance is included in our prices. Credit Cards A credit card in the main driver's name is required for renting the vehicle even when a voucher covers the cost of the rental. Cash and/or debit card deposits will not be accepted. The credit card imprint may be used to pay all extra charges, including extra driven kilometers, extra insurance, parking fines, damages or any costs due to the car rental company as a result of the hire's use of the car. Acceptable credit cards are: American Express, MasterCard and Visa. At the time of rental, an authorization is obtained on your credit card based on the estimated rental charges. There must be sufficient credit on your card to cover all charges. If you don´t have sufficient credit, you could make a bank transfer, so please contact Scandinavian Travel Experts here. LIABILITY Once you book through scandicexpert.com you agree to be legally bound by the following terms. Scandinavian Travel Experts acts in good faith and cannot be held responsible for any loss, damage, accidents, sickness or schedule changes caused by weather or road conditions, force majeur such as natural catastrophes, strikes or any other irregularities beyond the control of Scandinavian Travel Experts. Luggage is at the owner's risk throughout the tour. We therefore advise all clients to have insurance cover, as clients are at their own risk on optional tours, such as riding tours, white-water rafting, snowmobiling, etc. All information on Scandinavian Travel Experts is subject to change and we reserve the right to correct any mistakes that may appear on our website. These general booking conditions are subject to change and we reserve the right to update these conditions without notice. Complaints Our main goal is to provide you with an excellent service. If you, for any reason, are not satisfied with your holiday package, we would like to hear about it. We recommend you contact us as soon as any incident occurs. All complaints must reach Scandinavian Travel Experts within 10 days after your departure from Iceland. Otherwise, any possible compensation entitlement will not be valid. INSURANCE Please note that individual travel insurance is not included in the tour price and all medical costs and other costs involved must be paid by the client. It is therefore strongly recommended that participants take out personal insurance, especially for the active tours. We strongly recommend to all of our clients to purchase comprehensive travel insurance prior to departure to meet any contingencies.
Cancellation of packages For cancellations received up to 30 calendar days before the scheduled departure, a 20% cancellation fee will be charged. For cancellations received 15 -29 calendar days before the scheduled departure date a 60% cancellation fee will be charged. For cancellations received 7 -14 calendar days before the scheduled departure date a 80% cancellation fee will be charged. For cancellations received within 7 calendar days before the scheduled departure date a 100% cancellation fee will be charged. Cancellation of day-tours For cancellations received at least 7 calendar days before the scheduled departure there is no cancellation fee. For cancellations received 3 - 6 calendar days before the scheduled departure a 50% cancellation fee will be charged. For cancellations received within 2 calendar days before the scheduled departure a 100% cancellation fee will be charged. If you need to make a change to your holiday arrangement you must send us a notification via email at least 4 weeks before departure. For changes we charge up to 50 EUR per person. Some suppliers frequently charge fees for changes; if this occurs, the extra fee will be added to your total. Please notice that changes may not be possible within 3 weeks before departure.
